Over a sleepy Midwest town
In the deep snowfall
Footfalls ripping paper
To the caved in schoolhouse.

Later-

Ice weighing down yellowed grass.
Sketches of frost.
Numb and brittle ground,
Cracked from necessity
To rebuild.
